PA CHAMBER, THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FOR GREATER PHILADELPHIA AND GREATER PITTSBURGH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE JOINT STATEMENT ON WOLF ADMINISTRATION’S MODIFICATION OF COVID-19 EMERGENCY ORDER TO CLOSE “NON-LIFE-SUSTAINING” BUSINESSES

HARRISBURG - Today, the Wolf administration announced it was modifying the list of businesses considered to be “non-life-sustaining” as it relates to the governor’s emergency order for all such businesses in the Commonwealth to close their physical locations.  The administration’s modified guidelines can be found here.  PA Chamber of Business and Industry President and CEO Gene Barr, The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia President and CEO Rob Wonderling and Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce President Matt Smith issued the following joint statement regarding the update:

“We applaud the governor’s actions in modifying the definition of what is a critical or essential business.  Shortly after the original emergency order was announced, our organizations were inundated with questions from businesses across the Commonwealth seeking additional clarification.  On behalf of the state’s business community, we took these concerns to the administration and discussed the various impacts the order would have on vital supply chain businesses.  We are pleased the administration was open – and continues to be open – to discussions regarding private sector operations in the Commonwealth.

“These are unprecedented times as work continues on the local, state and federal level to stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus.  As the situation continues to evolve, it is vital that the lines of communication between our government officials and the private sector remain open.  Our organizations will continue to be a resource and partner to both the Wolf administration and the business community – helping to facilitate conversations and mitigate issues as they arise.  We encourage employers to continue to check our websites – www.PAChamber.orgwww.greaterpittsburghchamberofcommerce.com and www.chamberphl.com – for updates in the days and weeks ahead.”
