SAINT VINCENT'S MCCARL COVERLET GALLERY TO HOST "TEXTILE TUESDAYS"
Saint Vincent College’s Foster and Muriel McCarl Coverlet Gallery will sponsor a series of upcoming workshops covering a variety of knitting techniques and applications.
The first installment of Textile Tuesdays will take place March 12 and will cover Viking knitting. This technique is done with neither needles nor a loom, but with a wire on a stick, and it creates a tubular structure that can be transformed into necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Two sessions will be offered, one from 4-6 p.m. and the second from 6-8 p.m., and cost to register is $50.
On March 26, also from 4-6 p.m. or 6-8 p.m., a learn-to-knit class will be offered. It will allow participants to learn the basic skills of knitting well and will culminate with the attendees knitting a dish cloth. Cost to register is $20.
On April 2, 4 and 6 p.m. sessions will be held on beginner’s brioche, a knitting technique that produces irresistible, soft, three-dimensional and reversible fabric. Class fee is $20.
Textile Tuesdays wrap up on April 16 with an intermediate brioche class, which is designed to beef up basic brioche knitting skills and encourage attendees to become master brioche knitters. Cost to register is $20.
