February Member of the Month-Greater Latrobe Parks and Recreation

In 1944, the Latrobe Borough Council adopted a resolution creating the Latrobe Recreation Board. By 1945, the Board was fully functional, operating recreation programs and managing local parks. The Latrobe Recreation Board has continued to be at the forefront of parks and recreation throughout the years and recently became Greater Latrobe Parks and Recreation Commission.
Greater Latrobe Parks and Recreation partners with City of Latrobe, Unity Township, Greater Latrobe School District and local foundations to provide the community with recreational facilities and programs. The department oversees and maintains 13 parks, swimming pool, 3 excise trails and 10 playgrounds.
The department recognizes the importance to support local recreation business and organizations. Over the recent years the commission has partnered with Latrobe Little League, GLAMFA, Teener League, Willow Tree Gymnastics, Adams Memorial Library, Community Gardens, Latrobe Art Center, Lady Wildcats basketball, Loyalhanna Watershed, Keystone State Park,CDT Running Club, Jethawks Baseball, and Latrobe Aqua Club.

We pride ourselves to be good neighbors and be involved in local community events like; Banana Split Celebration, Holly Jolly, Steeler Fest, 4th of July, National Night out, Chalk the Walk, and Mister Rogers Day.
The Greater Latrobe Parks and Recreation department joined the Chamber of Commerce in 2016. Membership benefits and networking has been an asset for us. We were honored to receive Non-Profit of the Year in 2020. Our department looks forward to provide recreational programs, facilities, specials events, and services to our wonderful community and chamber members.
