December member of the month-Lora Kay from WHJB 107.1FM

MEET DECEMBER MEMBER OF THE MONTH
LORA KAY FROM WHJB 107.1 FM

You can tell by talking to Lora Kay about her job at WHJB that she really enjoys what she does. "I am so proud to be the weekday morning show host for WHJB... although if you would have asked me 7 years ago if I thought this would happen I definitely would have said no way!"

Lora graduated from Seton Hill University with an art/ elementary education degree. She spent 8 years substitute teaching in Latrobe, Derry and Hempfield School districts. At this point, Lora decided to try to find a full -time job to provide more stability and went into retail sales. Lora spent 13 years in retail management, including a stint working for the Disney corporation, before making the transition to an assistant director of a learning center, going back to my teaching roots.

"It was during this time that I started working part-time for WHJB, just doing commercials for people... providing the voices and learning how to produce ads. This part time position led to the full time position of morning show host. I never trained for broadcasting and never thought that my voice was anything spectacular. But I had several people who encouraged me and supported the decision to move me into the morning show position. I believe that things happen in life for a reason and that I am extremely blessed to be able to talk to people every morning and try to start their day with a smile. I take this responsibility very seriously and hope to make a small bit of difference in my corner of the world!"

WHJB also known as classic hits 107.1, a classic hits radio station serving all of Westmoreland county and Eastern Allegheny county. WHJB is the only station located in the county seat of Greensburg. The format is classic hits... top of the Billboard charts for the '60s, '70s, and '80s.

The station focuses on showcasing local businesses across Westmoreland county, from the small diner to the large corporation. The mission is to increase awareness of the services and goods available to the residents and to improve the economy right here where we live.
The station also airs Westmoreland county high School football on Fridays during football season and highlights various businesses interested in supporting our local sports.

The station began as WHJB FM in 1968. The name and call letters have changed over the years but since 2010, the station is back to the original name- WHJB. Lora and WHJB staff attend approximately 30 community events a year, taking classic hits and the famous prize wheel into the community for various occasions such as the Greensburg Community Days, the arts and heritage festival, and the Westmoreland County Fair, a variety of church and community festivals, and of course, The Great American Banana Split Celebration!

Sales associates attend chamber events and network with other chamber members to provide greater visibility for the station and lear more about local businesses. WHJB has been a member of the Greater Latrobe-Laurel Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce for about 5 years, and believes there are definite benefits of chamber membership. Opportunities to meet new business owners moving into Westmoreland county, reconnect with established businesses as they join the chamber, and providing our business with greater visibility are just a few. When our team attends networking events, we are able to promote our expertise as a station that provides media services to local businesses.

"I am just as honored to be chosen as chamber member of the month for December. Just like the chamber, my mission is to support businesses in Westmoreland county. I'm not a shop online girl! My family and my 14 cats are my pride and joy!"

"And here's a little known fact that people may not know about me... I'm a very shy person... Believe it or not!"
